Handbook of Small and Sustainable Housing

This guide surveys the wide range of housing alternatives that meet three criteria: environmental sustainability, DIY-ability, and low cost. It presents each with a clear summary, assessment of difficulty, resources, energy analysis and cost estimate, architectural drawings, photographs, and further resources. This guide provides a curious reader a great overview of the solutions out there, and the knowledge needed to assess what solution best fits their needs and how to proceed.

Handbook of Off-Grid Systems

This guide covers grassroots innovations in power, water, waste, and agriculture: alternatives that are environmentally sustainable, DIY, and economical. It also introduces system design, giving the reader the tools necessary to create and implement their own off-grid systems. This guide provides foundational knowledge and is oriented towards applying knowledge to practice.

Handbook of Social Systems for Sustainability

This guide presents a variety of tools useful towards building the strong personal and interpersonal relationships required for sustainable living and culture. It introduces psychological and social research basis and practice-based how-tos for each topic, drawn from a range of practitioners across the globe, from a variety of traditions.

Art and Sustainability

This guide introduces the idea of art as a tool for social change. Covering the topics of environmental art, interactive art, and immersive art, it aims to inspire the reader primarily through photo-narrative. The second part of this guide is oriented towards giving the reader the tools they need to start building their own art, from budgeting to fundraising and displaying.

BOOK: Designing Sustainable Living Systems from the Grassroots

This book draws on the four guides above to present a holistic guide to designing sustainable living systems from the grassroots. While the guides are free and open-source, this book is intended to provide the center with some income to support its programs and activities.
